FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
Force Plates

What models do you offer and what would you recommend?
Bertec force plates are available in a wide range of sizes and load capacities optimized for a broad range of applications. We also offer standard force plate packages:

Standard Gait & Posture Package
Standard Gait & Impact Package
Standard High Impact Package

Contact us to learn more about the wide variety of Bertec force plates.

Are your force plates compatible with motion capture systems?
Yes, all of our force plates, load cells and treadmills integrate seamlessly with all major motion capture systems.

Is a mounting plate required to install a force plate?
We recommend a precision flat and level mounting surface for all FP-series force plates to get the most accurate results.

Do you offer a portable force plate?
Yes, our NG-series force plate is portable, and soon a new, significantly thinner and lighter force plate will be available. The NG-series force plate has an adjustable foot so no mounting plate is required.

Is a force plate the same as a balance plate?
The term “balance plate” is a common name for a BP-series force plate. BP series force plates output vertical force (Fz) and and two moments (Mx and My) which can be used to compute the x and y positions of the Center of Pressure (CoPx and CoPy). These three channels are the main data signals available in Bertec’s BALANCECHECK™ software for use by balance researchers, clinicians and professionals.

The counterpart to the BP-series force plate is the FP-series that provides gait, sports, and ergonomics researchers with all direct data channels (Fx, Fy, Fz, Mx, My, Mz) which can be used to compute additional parameters (CoPx, CoPy, Tz) needed for biomechanics calculations. The FP-series force plates integrate seamlessly with all major motion capture systems.

What if I want a balance plate, but I need it to work with my motion capture system?
Balance researchers interested in working with motion capture systems should use the AB-series force plates, which output data channels equivalent to the BP-series (Fz, Mx, My, CoPx, CoPy) and can integrate seamlessly with all major motion capture systems using an analog amplifier (AM6501, AM6504 and AM6800).

What is the lead-time for force plate orders?
The lead-time depends on the specific model and package selected and most standard packages are shipped in 3-4 weeks.

Do you offer installation & training for the force plates?
Optional installation is available and the cost depends on customer requirements.

Does each force plate require its own amplifier?
Yes, every FP- and AB-series force plate requires its own amplifier. The BP-series force plates use a convenient USB cable output that connects directly to your laptop or PC and does not require an amplifier.

Can I use another manufacturer’s amplifier with the Bertec force plate?
No. Bertec force plates require a Bertec amplifier.

How do Bertec force plates differ from other force plates?
Bertec’s biomechanics measurement technology uses precision of strain gauges and does not have the drift associated with piezoelectric technology. Bertec’s advanced electronics allow users to capture and output data digitally, radically reducing cross-talk and signal interference.

What type of warranty do you offer with your force plates?
All FP- and AB-series force plates come with a seven-year warranty – absolute best in the industry.

BalanceCheck™ Systems

Is a balance plate synonymous with a force plate or is it a specialized type of force plate?
The term “balance plate” is the common name for a BP-series force plate. BP-series force plates output vertical force (Fz) and the x and y positions of the Center of Pressure (CoPx & CoPy) using a convenient USB cable. These three channels are the main data signals available in Bertec’s BalanceCheck™ software for use by balance researchers, clinicians and professionals.

What models do you offer and what would you recommend?
The BalanceCheck™ systems offer multiple configurations from the mobile screening system perfect for home visits or mobile fall clinics to the Standard Screener & Trainer with handrails and overhead support harness to fully support a wide variety of patients or clients.

How do I get reimbursed for the assessments and trainings performed using the BalanceCheck™ systems?
The BalanceCheck™ system has been billed with the following CPT codes:

Assessment:

97750 – Physical Performance Test

Training:

97001 – Initial Evaluation
97110 – Therapeutic Exercises
97112 – Neuromuscular Reeducation
97530 – Functional Exercises

What is the lead-time for delivery of a BalanceCheck™ system?
The lead-time depends on the specific model and package selected and most standard packages are shipped in 1-2 weeks.

Do you offer installation & training for the BalanceCheck™ systems?
Optional installation is available, although most customers find the system is easy to set up and operate without outside technical assistance.

How does the BalanceCheck™ system differ from other balance and training systems?
Bertec’s BalanceCheck™ system has the same biomechanics measurement technology used by top researchers and clinicians to accurately measure human performance metrics. The BalanceCheck™ system gives users more precise numerical data – center of pressure, exact amount of sway – and highlights sensory contributions that impact balance. Because the technology is so advanced and sensitive, the assessment time is very short, taking far less time than other balance assessment products.

What type of warranty do you offer with BalanceCheck™ system?
All BalanceCheck™ systems come with a standard one-year warranty.
